Katarzyna Dyjewska

visibility DISPLAYS: 1358

Katarzyna Dyjewska was born in 1987 in Gdynia. In 2015, she defended her master's degree "Empty City" at the Painting Department of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, realized under the guidance of prof. Krzysztof Wachowiak (Painting) and prof. Edward Tarkowski (annex in the Laboratory of Wall Painting Technology). The diploma received the Rector's Award. In 2014, she also defended her master's diploma entitled "The influence of arts and crafts on shaping architecture and architectural detail" at the Faculty of Architecture of the Warsaw University of Technology realized under the guidance of prof. nzw. dr hab. Eng. arch. Jan Słyk. The project was included in the exhibition "The most interesting diplomas of WAPW 2014", and also qualified for the Warsaw exhibition "Plans for the Future".

The artist creates compositions by colliding the colorful plane with the structure of rhythmic parallel lines. The relationship between detail and the whole is a consciously imposed formal principle building the image for her. The deserted space between the walls of buildings with the intriguing rhythms of empty windows, or on the contrary - supplemented by the special presence of man, becomes for her an excuse to instill universal metaphors in the image.

Although Katarzyna Dyjewska's paintings, through synthesis and geometry, can be perceived on an abstract level, they do not escape the content they contain - alienation, loneliness, or the sense of interpersonal relations. However, he tries to make the message not explicitly given, to give the recipient a margin for his own thoughts and interpretations.
