Witold Popiel studied painting in the studio of Janusz Przybylski. Since 1978, he has been actively engaged in painting, workshop and utility graphics. In 1986, he started making his first lithographs in the graphic arts studio. Starting from 1980, he participated in numerous exhibitions in Poland and abroad, including: Warsaw (Zachęta, Art, Kordegarda, and others), Lublin, Szczecin, Stockholm, Maastricht, Athens, Helsinborg, Petersburg, Linz and Osaka. In Heidelberg and Osaka, he exhibited together with professors of the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts, Janusz Przybylski and Jan Tarasin. His paintings and graphics are in private collections, as well as at the District Museum in Lublin, Olsztyn and Vienna. Reproductions of his paintings, lithographs and collages have repeatedly decorated the covers of books (Czytelnik), calendars and posters, as well as about 100 CDs with music.

He published theoretical works in the field of painting (Zachęta publishing house, "Fantastyka") and music ("Jazz", "Jazz Forum"). For his literary work, he received the prestigious award of the "Literatura" monthly. He also conducted seminars and lectures on new, technologically advanced methods of creating graphics. In addition, he participated in radio and television programs devoted to painting, and also hosted an original program dealing with applied arts. He collaborated with the monthly "Murator", which published his columns on interior design.
